Doncaster v Blackpool Match Review

The path taken by these clubs over the past half-decade is almost symmetrical. Since their meeting on the first day of the championship 13/14, both clubs were banned from this division in 15/16, but returned at the first attempt.

They look harder for the experience. Blackpool played well with big boys Bradford on the opening day and put a lot of pressure on, but narrowly lost. The following week they showed another impressive performance, this time against MK Dons, Sean Longstaff’s first goal in the 6th minute rewarding this performance with a 1-0 win.

On loan at Newcastle, he was praised for his performance and joins a group of young striking talents. Another loanee, VIV Solomon-Otabor, has attracted attention since arriving from Birmingham and Bright osayi-Samuel continues to win admirers.

The latter, who has been moved from the wing to a second striker role, hopes to escape the clutches of Benjamin Whiteman on Saturday. The on-loan Sheffield United player starts at the base of the diamond for his deep playmaking qualities and played well against Gillingham and Blackburn.

The usual doubtful, John Marquis and James Coppinger, stood out in this 3-1 win at Ewood Park, but the improved second half was partly due to the introduction of a lesser-known name. Thanks to a full pre-season, Alfie May’s Athletics came to the fore, trouble the Blackburn backline and got his rewards with the third goal.

Donny has not scored a single goal without May on the pitch this season, but six in 135 minutes with him present – the equivalent of four goals a game. Darren Ferguson must be tempted to mate Him with Marquis on Saturday and set Curtis Tilt and Clark Robertson.

However, Tilt has started well at this level-having not played a single league game two weeks ago-alongside the more experienced Robertson. Doncaster centre-backs Duo Joe Wright and Andy Butler have also impressed from the start as both clubs browbeat to continue their renaissance.
